Nonlinear Coupling of Phononic Resonators Induced by Surface Acoustic Waves

The rising need for hybrid physical platforms has triggered a renewed interest in the development of agile radio-frequency phononic circuits with complex functionalities. combination traveling waves resonant mechanical elements appears as an appealing means harnessing elastic vibration. In this work, we demonstrate that can be further enriched by occurrence surface acoustic (SAWs), induced nonlinearities, interacting pair otherwise linear micron-scale resonators. Reduction resonator-gap distance and increase SAW amplitude results frequency softening resonator-pair response lies outside usual picture geometrical Duffing nonlinearities. dynamics excitation scheme allows control resonator motion, notably leading to circular-polarization states. These may pave way toward versatile high-frequency microelectromechanical-systems--nanoelectromechanical-systems fitting both classical quantum technologies.
